Robot Mower Warranties Explained: What’s Covered and What Isn’t

Updated 7-minute read

Quick answer

A robot mower warranty is really three warranties with three different lengths: one for the mower, a shorter one for the battery, and a shorter one again for small parts. Segway’s published Navimow policy is a good example. Most mowers get 3 years, most batteries 2 years, cutting discs and wheels 30 to 90 days, and blades nothing at all, because they’re consumables. The exclusions that matter most are improper charging, storage or maintenance, water damage, unauthorised repairs and broken tamper seals. Keep your proof of purchase and the serial number, and register the mower on the day it arrives.

A warranty is one of the few ways to compare robot mowers that doesn’t depend on marketing claims. It’s also the document owners read only when something has already gone wrong. This guide explains how robot mower warranties are structured, which exclusions come up in practice, and what to do from day one so a claim goes smoothly.

One mower, three warranties

Segway’s US limited warranty for Navimow is published in full, and it shows how these policies are usually built:

Segway Navimow limited warranty, as published
PartTerm
Mower: X series, i series, H210/H220, H8003 years
Mower: H1500/H30004 years
Battery and power adapter: most models2 years
Battery: H1500/H30003 years
Garage, MowGate, antennas, cables2 years
Cutting discs, edge protection, wheels30 to 90 days
BladesNot covered: consumable

Terms change. Check the current policy for your exact model at the time you buy.

The headline figure is the mower term. The figure that matters most is often the battery term, because the battery is the part most likely to need replacing during a mower’s life. Husqvarna puts typical Automower battery life at 2 to 5 years, so a battery that fails in year three may be outside a 2-year battery warranty while the mower itself is still covered. How long a robot mower battery lasts covers this side.

Husqvarna’s headline warranty is not its Automower warranty

Husqvarna widely advertises a 3-year “bumper to bumper” limited warranty in the US. Its own page says that warranty covers riding mowers, tractors, zero-turns, push mowers, tillers and snow throwers, and that Automower robotic mowers have separate coverage. If you’re comparing a Husqvarna robot mower, get the Automower warranty statement for that model from the dealer or Husqvarna’s warranty documents. Don’t rely on the headline figure.

The exclusions that catch owners out

Every warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship and excludes damage. The trouble is where one ends and the other begins. These exclusions appear in Segway’s policy and are typical of the category:

  • Improper charging, storage, maintenance or operation. This is the broad one, and it’s why following the manual’s storage instructions matters. A battery stored flat in a freezing shed all winter is a storage question, not a defect question. Winter storage sets out the correct routine.
  • Water damage. Robot mowers are built for rain, but water forced in by a pressure washer is a different matter. Clean with a brush and a damp cloth, and check what your manual allows before using a hose.
  • Unauthorised repairs. Opening sealed parts yourself, or having an unauthorised shop do it, can end coverage.
  • Broken tamper-resistant seals and illegible serial numbers. Segway requires the serial number to be intact and readable and all tamper-resistant seals to be intact.
  • Abuse, misuse, negligence and commercial use. A consumer mower used by a landscaping business is usually not covered.
  • Consumables. Blades are consumable and never covered. Short-term cover on discs and wheels reflects that they wear out too.

What to do on day one

  1. Register the mower. Husqvarna requires registration to verify purchase for its wheeled-equipment warranty, and registering is the norm across brands. Do it before you mow.
  2. Keep the receipt. Segway requires proof of purchase for any claim, and Husqvarna asks for reliable proof such as a warranty card, invoice or receipt. Photograph it, because paper receipts fade.
  3. Photograph the serial number label while it’s new and clean. Segway requires the serial number with any claim.
  4. Save the warranty statement for your model as a PDF, dated to your purchase. Policies get revised, and you want the version that applied when you bought.
  5. Note the authorised retailer. Buying from an unauthorised seller can complicate warranty service with some brands, so check the seller is authorised before paying.

Making a claim

  1. Describe the fault in writing, with dates. Segway asks for a description of the defect along with proof of purchase and the serial number. Include error codes from the app and when the fault started.
  2. Take photos or a short video of the fault happening, if you can.
  3. Use the official channel. Segway lists email and live chat for US support. Husqvarna repairs go through authorised Husqvarna servicing dealers.
  4. Don’t open the mower first. Opening it can break the seals the warranty depends on.
  5. Claim within the term. Segway requires claims to be made within the applicable warranty period, so report a fault as soon as it appears, not at the end of the season.

Dealer brands and direct brands handle this differently

With a dealer brand like Husqvarna, a warranty repair usually means a local dealer looks at the machine. Husqvarna even offers a pickup-and-delivery allowance on robotic mowers within the first 90 days. With direct-to-consumer brands, it usually means remote troubleshooting, then shipping the mower or receiving a replacement part. Neither is better in every case, but for owners who don’t want to box up and ship a heavy mower, it’s a real difference. Brands compared covers who has dealers where.

Are extended warranties worth it?

Third-party protection plans for robot mowers are widely sold. Ask four questions before buying one:

  • Does it cover the battery? That’s the part most likely to fail after the manufacturer’s battery term ends. A plan that excludes it is worth much less.
  • Who does the repair, and where? A plan that needs you to ship the mower to a depot is a different product from one that sends a technician.
  • Does it overlap the manufacturer’s term? Paying for years 1 to 3 when the maker already covers them is money wasted.
  • What are the exclusions? Most repeat the manufacturer’s exclusions for misuse and improper storage, so good care matters here too.

For many owners, the better protection is buying a mower with a long battery term and sizing it so the battery isn’t overworked.

Questions

How long is a robot mower warranty?

It varies by brand and part. Segway’s published US policy covers most Navimow mowers for 3 years, larger H1500 and H3000 models for 4, most batteries and power adapters for 2, and cutting discs, edge protection and wheels for 30 to 90 days. Blades are not covered.

Does Husqvarna’s 3-year warranty cover the Automower?

No. Husqvarna’s own page says its 3-year bumper-to-bumper limited warranty covers wheeled equipment such as riding and push mowers, and that Automower robotic mowers have separate coverage. Ask the dealer for the Automower warranty statement for your model.

Are robot mower blades covered by warranty?

No. Blades are treated as consumables. Segway’s policy says so explicitly. Husqvarna puts main-disc blade life at 3 to 6 weeks, so replacing them is routine maintenance.

What voids a robot mower warranty?

Commonly: improper charging, storage, maintenance or operation; abuse, misuse or commercial use; water damage; unauthorised repairs; and broken tamper-resistant seals or an unreadable serial number. Segway lists all of these in its Navimow policy.

Do I need to register my robot mower for the warranty?

Register it either way. Husqvarna makes registration mandatory for its wheeled-equipment warranty, and registration is standard across brands. Keep proof of purchase and a photo of the serial number too, since Segway requires both for a claim.

Is the battery covered for as long as the mower?

Often not. Most Navimow batteries are covered for 2 years against 3 for the mower. Since Husqvarna puts typical battery life at 2 to 5 years, the battery term is worth checking closely.

The short version

Read three numbers, not one: the mower term, the battery term and the parts term. Blades are never covered. Register on day one, photograph the receipt and serial number, and save the warranty statement. Follow the storage and cleaning instructions, since improper storage and water damage are the exclusions owners run into most. And don’t open the mower yourself while it’s under warranty.

Warranty is part of choosing the brand

Who repairs it, where, and for how long differs a lot between dealer brands and direct brands.
