Quick answer
Choose Husqvarna if you want a proven brand with a local dealer to install and service the mower, and you don’t mind buying offline. Choose Segway Navimow if you want an easy wire-free setup, a wide range of sizes, and the convenience of buying and returning online. Husqvarna has the longer track record; Navimow has the newer navigation and, in its X-series, the highest slope ratings.
These are two of the most cross-shopped robot mower brands in the U.S., and they represent two genuinely different philosophies: the established dealer-backed name against the fast-moving wire-free challenger. Here’s how they actually differ.
MowReview hasn’t tested these mowers. Observations belong to the testers named.

Husqvarna: the proven, dealer-backed choice
Husqvarna has made robotic mowers longer than almost anyone, on a platform it has refined over decades and backed by a dealer service network. Wirecutter has long rated a Husqvarna Automower as a top pick, and Tom’s Guide and Popular Mechanics both cover its current models.
The dealer model is the real dividing line. Someone local installs the mower and services it, which suits buyers who’d rather not handle setup or troubleshooting. Husqvarna mowers can run on a boundary wire or wire-free with the EPOS satellite kit, sold separately, and work with Alexa and Google Home.
The trade-offs: many Husqvarna models carry lower slope ratings than the newest all-wheel-drive rivals, going wire-free usually costs extra for the EPOS kit, and it’s harder to just buy on Amazon. Some boundary-wire models are also being phased out in favor of satellite navigation, so check whether the model you’re looking at is current.
Segway Navimow: the wire-free range
Navimow has moved quickly and now spans small lawns to 1.5 acres. Bob Vila named the X430 its best robot mower overall for 2026, and PCWorld called the i110N’s navigation the best in its class. Setup is wire-free: you walk the lawn edge once with the app, or use assisted mapping. The X-series carries the highest slope ratings of any mower we cover, at 84%.
Buying is easy, through Amazon and the big retailers, which also makes returns straightforward, useful on a purchase you can’t fully test until it’s on your lawn.
The trade-offs: the big X-series models are heavy, with Gear Diary measuring the X430 at 63.7 lb, the heaviest it has tested. PCWorld hesitated to recommend the smaller front-wheel-drive i-series for sloped yards. And support runs through the app and the retailer rather than a local dealer, which is a downside if you’d rather deal with a person.
How to choose between them
| Choose Husqvarna if… | Choose Segway Navimow if… |
|---|---|
| You want a dealer to install and service it | You’re happy to set it up yourself in an afternoon |
| You value the longest track record | You want the newest wire-free navigation |
| You’d rather deal with a local person than an app | You want to buy, and return, online easily |
| You have an established, larger lawn | You want a specific size from a very wide range |
| You need a high slope rating (X-series) |
The question that often settles it
Who do you want to call when something goes wrong? If the answer is “a local person who knows the machine,” Husqvarna’s dealer network is the deciding factor. If it’s “I’ll sort it through an app or send it back,” Navimow’s retail availability wins. Neither is better; they suit different people.
For very steep or rough ground, also look at tracked robot mowers, which out-climb both brands here.
What about the other brands?
These two aren’t the only options. For the steepest yards, Mammotion’s all-wheel-drive LUBA line and the tracked Lymow One out-climb both. For heavy shade, Ecovacs’ LiDAR mowers navigate where satellite-based systems struggle. Our brands comparison covers the wider field, and the main buying guide matches mowers to yard types.
Whichever you choose, check your yard first
Brand comes after fit. Before deciding, get your lawn size, your steepest slope and your tree cover. Those decide which models from either brand can actually do the job.
Questions
Is Husqvarna or Segway Navimow better?
Neither is better overall; they suit different buyers. Husqvarna offers a proven platform with local dealer installation and service. Segway Navimow offers easy wire-free setup, a wider range of sizes, high slope ratings on its X-series, and the convenience of buying online. The deciding factor is usually whether you want dealer support or online convenience.
Does Husqvarna still use a boundary wire?
Its mowers can run on a boundary wire, or wire-free with the EPOS satellite kit, which is a separate purchase. Husqvarna has been shifting toward satellite navigation, and some older wire-based models are being phased out, so check whether a given model is current before buying.
Which brand is easier to set up?
Segway Navimow is designed for self-setup: you walk the lawn edge with the app, or use assisted mapping. Husqvarna is often dealer-installed, which is easier in the sense that someone else does it, but less of a do-it-yourself option out of the box on wire-free models.
